If you ask me why the Isuzu D-Max VCross is the perfect family getaway vehicle, I can give you plenty of reasons. After spending a lot of time driving this capable SUV, it’s hard not to be impressed. In a market where options for pickup trucks are limited to the Toyota HiLux and VCross, it’s a standout. We used to have the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway, and I truly wish more brands would introduce pickups. Imagine a pickup truck from Volkswagen or Mercedes! While pickup trucks may not be the top choice for everyone, for those who appreciate them, they’re a class of their own. The versatility of hauling loads in the back or even transporting a couple of bikes while seating five people comfortably is a game-changer.
VCross: A Smooth & Refined Diesel Performer
Under the hood, the VCross is powered by a 2.0L diesel engine that delivers 163bhp of power and 360Nm of torque. What’s impressive is how refined the engine is—there’s just a slight diesel growl. Compared to larger 3.0L diesels, this smaller engine feels smoother and offers better fuel efficiency. On highways, you can expect around 14 km/l, while in the city, it’s about 10 km/l—not bad for a pickup truck, right?
The Perfect Family Adventure Vehicle
Whether you’re navigating rugged terrain or cruising on highways, the VCross, with its 4×4 capabilities, handles it all effortlessly. It’s perfect for family getaways. Despite having leaf springs at the rear for better load capacity, the cabin offers excellent comfort both in the front and back rows. The suspension is smooth, ensuring a pleasant ride even on challenging roads.
Daily Drive? It Depends.
Can the VCross be your daily driver? Well, that depends on your perspective. For me, it’s a definite yes. Despite being over 5.25 meters in length, it’s surprisingly easy to handle in the city. If you’re used to driving a large SUV, you’ll find the VCross even more comfortable. The latest model comes with a 9-inch touchscreen featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for added convenience, and the rear seats offer improved comfort. On the exterior, Isuzu has made it more stylish with dark grey accents on the mirrors, roof rails, and hood garnish.
The Rugged Pick Up
Isuzu is renowned for their rugged build quality and reliability. If you visit Thailand, you’ll still see decades-old Isuzus running strong. If you’re looking for a more affordable option that’s easier on fuel and more manageable in the city, the VCross is the one for you. Overall, the Isuzu D-Max VCross is a perfect blend of comfort for your family, toughness for adventures, and efficiency for long highway drives.
