With the launch of the new Accord Hybrid, Honda is further upping the ante with their premium luxury sedan offering. This 9th generation Accord is being brought into India as a CBU import, and will cost Rs 37 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
The Accord sports very distinctive styling – something that is sure be its USP in this segment. A thick chrome bar adorns the grille, flanked by massive LED headlamps, and elongated tail lamps at the rear. On the features front, the Accord gets lane watch assist, airbags, ABS and traction control; also frequency selective dampers, remote start, pre-heating and pre-cooling options for the interiors, dual-zone automatic climate control and a sunroof, among other features.
Under the bonnet resides a 143hp 2.0-litre i-VTEC Atkinson cycle petrol motor, while two additional electric motors work to deliver a total output of 215hp. The Accord Hybrid gets three modes: Hybrid Drive, EV and Engine Drive. In Hybrid Drive, the car’s batteries are responsible for the power supply, while the engine plays its role of a generator. Engine Drive Mode, on the other hand, powers the wheels directly, while EV mode let you drive on the support of the electric motor alone.
Honda says the Accord will deliver 23.1kpl on an average. But at this price, you will also be able to buy what the biggies like Merc, BMW and Audi have to offer. Only time will be able to tell if this one is going find some homes.
