Audi’s most successful luxury sedan – the A4 – is out in a new avatar, and has now been launched in our market at a price range of Rs 38.10-41.20 lakh(ex-showroom, Delhi).
The new A4 employs an all-new petrol engine: 1.4-litre turbo petrol good for 150hp that sends power to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Despite being smaller than the 1.8-litre motor it replaces, this new engine delivers similar performance with a good fuel economy figure of 17.84kpl to boot.
From the outside, the new A4 looks identical to the older one, but is still all-new – with crisper, cleaner lines defining its distinct appeal. On the inside, everything is fresh to the eye, but it can be seen that ideas are borrrowed from the new TT and Q7. The top-end A4 comes equipped with features like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, smartphone interface for the infotainment system, wing mirrors with memory function, dual front, head and side airbags, three-zone auto climate control and 17-inch alloy wheels, among a host of other goodies.
Expect a diesel-engined version to make its way into India at a later stage, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see if buyers will accept a downsized petrol engine under the hood of their premium luxury sedan.
