We’re all aware that Jagaur’s new XF is lighter, sharper to look at and more luxurious on the inside, but let’s highlight some of the most intriguing aspects of this new luxury bruiser.

The sloping bonnet and distinctive headlamp design sporting J-Blade DRLs, for instance, really do stand out. A notable raise in the tail-section is very apparent; so are the beautifully-detailed tail lights. It’s hard to see this thing parked in front of hotel and mistake it for anything but a Jag.

The utterly cosseting, perforated leather seats are something else really. Opt for the top-of-the-line Portfolio, and you’re spoilt for choice with a 14-way electric adjust with controls for thigh support and side bolstering. The feature that has us hooked however, is the 825W Meridian sound system and the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system – all operated via a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Besides being very intuitive and user-friendly, it is also quick in responding to every input. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting – all make for great elements. Thanks to Park Assist, the car steers itself into challenging parking spots automatically, with the driver keeping a tab on the brake, for obvious reasons. And for those of you wondering if this one made it or not – yes, Jaguar’s signature ‘Handshake’ feature, that has the rotary gear-knob and side AC vents rise on starting the car, is alive-and-kicking on the new model too.

The heart of the car is all-new: a 2.0-litre Ingenium, 4-cylinder petrol engine that features an all-aluminium, low-friction design that boasts of a twin-scroll turbo-charger and Constantly Variable Valve Lift technology that comes in two states of tune: a 247bhp and 197bhp engine. The Prestige model gets the latter, while the Portfolio gets the former. Mated to both engines is an 8-speed automatic gearbox that boasts of Jaguar Sequential Shift and All Surface Progress Control.
