In a remarkable display of engineering and driving prowess, Porsche test driver Lars Kern set a new lap record of 7:24.17 minutes for luxury class cars with combustion engines and hybrids in the upcoming top model of the Panamera series. The record was set on the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife track, surpassing the previous best of 7:29.81 minutes held by the Panamera Turbo S since 2020.
Lars Kern, who has a history of setting records in the Panamera on this track in 2016 and 2020, praised the car’s improved performance. “On the Nordschleife, the transverse dynamic capabilities of a car are particularly important. The new Panamera has made significant gains in this area,” said Kern. He highlighted the car’s agility, especially in technically demanding sections like ‘Hohe Acht’ and ‘Brünnchen’.
The Panamera’s new lap time, more than five seconds faster than its predecessor, showcases the continuous development of this four-door sports car. The vehicle’s impressive driving performance is attributed not only to its electrically supported eight-cylinder combustion engine but also to several other enhancements.
To ensure driver safety, the record-setting Panamera was equipped with a racing seat and a mandatory safety cage, though it remained otherwise true to the series version. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, specially developed for the Panamera, along with the optional Carbon Aerokit and adaptive 4-way rear spoiler, played crucial roles in optimizing performance by enhancing aerodynamic balance and downforce.
This latest achievement underscores Porsche’s commitment to blending luxury and high-performance, pushing the boundaries of what a touring saloon can achieve on the racetrack.
