The Honda CR-V is coming in the form of its newest generation in India and the official launch is scheduled on 9th October 2018. For the first time ever, the premium SUV will be launched as a seven seater, offering more convenience than usual. It also gets a brand new turbocharged diesel engine making close to 130 horsepower while the petrol engine can be opted for, if in need of more performance. The 2018 Honda CR-V boasts a matured exterior with a signature chrome garnished front grille and a busy front bumper. However, the family focussed appeal has not been ditched while gaining a bit of sportiness. Another exciting feature is the existence of a nine-speed ZF sourced transmission mated to the diesel engine. The interior is more upmarket than most of its rivals such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, segment-leading Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. However, the new CR-V cannot be termed as an outright off-roader when compared to the high riding Fortuner and Endeavour that also offer more powerful and torquier diesel engines.
Honda is looking to strengthen its premium portfolio with the new CR-V following the successful launch of the latest generation Amaze that has done wonders for the Japanese in volume sales.
While the CR-V cannot replicate the same popularity, as it’s positioned in a more premium segment, it arrives just ahead of the hotly anticipated Civic. Both are based on the same platform and will share several components with each other.
The Civic will enter India in the early part of next year.
