The hot hatch game begins in India with the launch of the Volkswagen Polo GTI, priced at a whopping Rs 17 lakh more than the Polo GT.
The details that set it apart from the regular Polo are the GTI badge on the honeycomb mesh grille with the red stripe running the length of it, sportier front bumper, matte grey 16-inch alloys, with 17-inchers on the options list as well, LED headlamps – and of course – the rather sexy three-door appeal that is sure to win over enthusiasts’ hearts.
It features a limited slip differential, and other goodies like: hill-hold control, ABS, 6 airbags, steering-mounted paddle-shifters, and ESP.
Under the bonnet, Volkswagen has put in a 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 192hp and 250Nm of torque, with 0-100kph being dealt with in just 7.2 seconds. For those of you waiting – yes, a top speed figure of 233kph is what this firecracker can execute. Mated to the engine is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Only 99 lucky customers will have the privilege of owning the Polo GTI, as this is an import available as a limited-run model in India.
