Pascal Wehrlein from the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has been crowned the new Formula E World Champion. Thanks to a brilliant team effort in the final race in London, the German driver secured second place, earning enough points to defend his lead in the World Championship, which he had only reclaimed the previous day.

In the teams’ classification, the Porsche works outfit claimed vice-championship honours. The Weissach team set a record with seven wins in one season. Combined with customer team Andretti Formula E’s win, half of all victories this year (eight) went to the Porsche 99X Electric, more than any other car in the field.

Pascal Wehrlein joined Porsche in 2020 to contest the Formula E World Championship, becoming the first German single-seater World Champion since Nico Rosberg’s Formula 1 Championship in 2016. This first World Championship title for the Porsche works team comes after five seasons in the innovative electric racing series, with seven victories in one year eclipsing the record set by Renault e.dams in season 3 of Formula E.

António Félix da Costa, the most successful driver of the year, contributed four of Porsche’s wins. In the London race, he made up five places to finish fifth, but was later relegated to 13th place due to a penalty.

Drivers from Porsche’s customer team Andretti Formula E finished outside the points, with Norman Nato taking 12th place and Jake Dennis, this year’s Diriyah race winner with the Porsche 99X Electric, forced into retirement after a collision.
