Audi is simplifying its model naming system to provide clearer orientation for customers worldwide. The brand is standardizing its alphanumeric nomenclature, focusing on size and positioning rather than powertrain type. This shift, based on customer feedback and dealer input, will allow Audi’s global lineup to be easily understood at a glance.

The new naming system will include the letters A and Q to distinguish between low-floor and high-floor vehicles, with numbers from one to eight indicating size and positioning. The previous differentiation between electric and combustion-engine models based on even and odd numbers will no longer apply. All-electric and combustion-engine vehicles can now share the same name, with differentiation made through body styles (like Avant, Sedan, or Sportback) and powertrain codes (e-tron or TFSI).

The first model to use this updated naming convention will be the Audi A6, with a combustion engine, set to be revealed globally on March 4. Both the A6 Avant TFSI and the all-electric A6 Avant e-tron will debut in the Middle East in Q4 2025, each clearly identified by their powertrain codes. No changes will be made to the names of existing models.
