Further adding muscle to its range, Mercedes-Benz has launched a powerful petrol variant of the GLS SUV in India. At the moment, the GLS will be brought in as a CBU import, with local production to begin in the near future.

Under the massive bonnet sits a 3.0-litre twin-turbo, V6 petrol that makes 333hp and 480Nm of torque, with all the power being transferred via a 9G-TRONIC auto transmission. 0-100kph is dealt with in 6.6 seconds with a top speed of 240kph.

Features remain the same as the ones seen on its diesel version. Mercedes-Benz’s 4-MATIC AWD system, AIRMATIC air suspension, Apple CarPlay, LED headlamps, 8-inch COMAND infotainment system and Active Parking Assist with a 360-degree camera are among a host of goodies on offer.

The recently up-lifted diesel ban will now see manufacturers happy to think sales of diesels will not dwindle any further; however, the launch of petrol cars by Mercedes ensures that there is still a back-up plan. The new GLS400 can be yours for 82.9 lakh rupees(ex-showroom, Delhi).
