BMW has officially unveiled the all-new fifth-generation BMW X5, introducing its most technologically advanced luxury SUV to date. For the first time, the X5 will be offered with five different powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, a fully electric BMW iX5, and the brand’s first-ever production hydrogen-powered BMW iX5 Hydrogen.
The all-electric iX5 debuts BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, featuring 800-volt architecture, a driving range of up to 845 km, bidirectional charging capability, and faster charging speeds. Meanwhile, the upcoming hydrogen variant promises a range of up to 750 km using BMW’s third-generation fuel-cell system.
Inspired by BMW’s Neue Klasse design language, the new X5 receives a bold exterior with illuminated kidney grilles, new “double-X” LED lighting signatures, flush electric door handles, and wheel options up to 23 inches. Inside, the cabin features the latest BMW Panoramic iDrive, BMW Operating System X, a full-width Panoramic Vision display, a 3D Head-Up Display, and premium materials including optional slate trim.
BMW says the new X5 continues its tradition of combining sporty driving dynamics with luxury, thanks to standard adaptive suspension, near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution, advanced Level 2 driver assistance systems, and the new Heart of Joy control system for smoother driving and braking in electric models.
Production of the new BMW X5 will begin in August 2026 at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in the United States, with customer deliveries starting in late November 2026. The all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants are scheduled to arrive in early 2027.
