BMW will significantly enhance its in-car voice technology in 2026 by expanding the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant using Amazon’s new Alexa+ AI architecture. BMW will be the first automotive brand to integrate this advanced assistant, debuting in the all-new BMW iX3.

The next-generation system enables natural, conversational interaction without predefined voice commands, allowing users to ask multiple questions in a single sentence that combine vehicle functions and general knowledge. Context-aware dialogue, follow-up questions, and intelligent responses powered by a Large Language Model (LLM) transform the vehicle into a true digital companion. Integration with Amazon accounts will also allow seamless access to music streaming, news, and other content.

The enhanced BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will be unveiled publicly at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, with availability starting in the second half of 2026 for BMW iX3 customers in Germany and the US, before expanding to additional markets and models. Built on BMW Operating System X and the new Panoramic iDrive, the system marks a major step in BMW’s vision of a fully software-defined vehicle and deeper integration into customers’ digital ecosystems.
