The Marc VDS rider who is currently sitting third place in the drivers’ championship with two victories to his credit this season was shifted to the medical centre after injuring his left hip in a major highside at Turn 8 in the closing stages of Friday’s opening practice session at Misano Grand Prix in Italy.

Despite the crash, Marquez finished the session with the fastest time, two tenths clear of championship-leading teammate Franco Morbidelli. Although it was reported Marquez had fractured his hip in the impact, Marc VDS issued a tweet stating this was not the case,

But added that the impact on his left hip caused internal bleeding and it would be unsafe for him to ride. The team also said the 21-year-old Spaniard will aim to return to action for the next round of the season at Aragon in two weeks’ time but his absence has surely hurt chances of scoring some valuable points in the championship.
