Porsche is expanding its hybrid range with a new Panamera Sport Turismo model line. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo flagship model will combine a four-litre V8 biturbo engine with an electric motor, producing a combined 680 hp (500 kW). Even when just above idle speed, the sporty saloon offers 850 Nm of torque, accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h. The most powerful Sport Turismo has a range of up to 49 kilometres using solely electric power and therefore producing zero local emissions. It is not just the balance between performance and efficiency that makes this hybrid saloon unique in its segment; its design concept, which features a large tailgate, low loading edge, increased luggage compartment volume and a 4+1 seating configuration, results in the new top performer offering a high standard of everyday usability.Zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and 3.0-litre fuel consumption
As with the Panamera sports saloon flagship model, Porsche is now also demonstrating the huge performance potential of hybrid technology with the Sport Turismo. The boost strategy used in the series-production all-wheel drive Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo has been taken from the Porsche 918 Spyder super sports car. At revs as low as 1,400 rpm, the V8 biturbo (404 kW/550 hp) and the electric motor (100 kW/136 hp) deliver the maximum system torque of 850 Nm. The decoupler integrated into the hybrid module is electro-mechanically controlled via an Electric Clutch Actuator, resulting in shorter response times and a high level of occupant comfort. The fast-shifting, eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmits power to the standard adaptive all-wheel drive system Porsche Traction Management (PTM). The E-performance drive allows the vehicle to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a further 8.5 seconds to reach the 200 km/h mark, alongside a top speed of 310 km/h. Even with this level of performance, the plug-in hybrid model is extremely efficient, the result from the NEDC was fuel consumption of 3.0 l/100 km and power consumption of 17.6 kWh/100 km. The Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo has a range of up to 49 kilometres and a top speed of 140 km/h when driven solely on electric power, with no emissions. The lithium-ion battery has an energy content of 14.1 kWh and can be charged within 2.4 to 6 hours, depending on the charger and power connection.[caption id="attachment_5560" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo[/caption] Unique design, adaptive roof spoiler and 4+1 seating concept
The Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo offers all of the innovations of the second generation Panamera, including the digitalised Porsche Advanced Cockpit, ground-breaking assistance systems and optional rear-axle steering. Another of these innovations is the roof spoiler, unique in the segment, the pitch is automatically controlled to one of three different angles depending on the driving situation and vehicle settings. The spoiler generates additional downforce of up to 50 kg on the rear axle, under speeds of 170 km/h the aerodynamic guide element – a central system component of the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) – stays in its retracted position at an angle of minus seven degrees to follow the roof line. Above 170 km/h the roof spoiler automatically moves to a performance position with an angle of plus one degree, thereby increasing driving stability and lateral dynamics. In the Sport and Sport Plus driving modes, the roof spoiler automatically moves to the performance position at speeds of 90 km/h upwards. PAA provides active assistance by adapting the roof spoiler’s angle to plus 26 degrees, when the panoramic sliding roof is open, at 90 km/h or above to compensate for the turbulence created. The top-of-the-line model has all of the advantages of the new Sport Turismo range and its the avant-garde design. The roof line of the Sport Turismo is raised in comparison to the sports saloon, allowing for easier entry and exit of passengers and provides greater head room. The luggage compartment benefits from the wide opening electrically-operated tailgate, and a leading-edge height of just 628 millimetres. The second row of the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is equipped with three rear seats. The two outside seats are individual seats, keeping with the model line’s ethos of sporty performance with maximum passenger comfort, producing a 2+1 configuration at the rear. Two electrically-adjustable individual seats for the rear can be fitted as an option. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo offers 425 litres of luggage space. The three rear seats can be folded down together or individually (in a 40:20:40 split) and unlocked electrically from the luggage compartment. With the second row folded away the loading volume increases to 1,295 litres. [caption id="attachment_5562" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo[/caption] Extensive standard equipment including ceramic brakes
The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is available with a range of standard equipment. As with all Panamera Sport Turismo models that produce over 440 hp (324 kW) of power, the adaptive three-chamber air suspension is standard including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) for a broad range between a high level of driving dynamics and driving comfort. The new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is available to order now, with the market launch scheduled for January 2018. Porsche has set a new record for road legal sports cars on the famous 20.6-kilometre Nürburgring Nordschleife in the 911 GTS RS on September 20. The record time of 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds was achieved in the presence of a notary and surpassed even Porsche’s own expectations. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars said, “At the start of the development process, we set ourselves a lap time target for the GT2 RS of less than 7 minutes and 5 seconds. The credit for beating this target by 17.7 seconds goes to our development engineers, mechanics and drivers, who demonstrated an exceptionally strong team performance. This result makes it official: The GT2 RS is not only the most powerful, but also the fastest 911 ever built”.
This record was not a one-off: Lars Kern (30) from Germany and Nick Tandy (32) from the UK broke the previous record for road legal sports cars (6 minutes, 52.01 seconds) in their first attempt and subsequently finished five laps, each coming in under 6 minutes, 50 seconds. Andreas Preuninger, Director GT Model Line, says: “It’s not just the record time achieved by the GT2 RS that demonstrates the vehicle’s class, but also its consistent performance in every lap. We’re particularly proud of the fact that this was achieved with two different vehicles and two different drivers, as this underlines the GT2 RS’s ability to reproduce this record result over and over again”.
Porsche factory driver Tandy travelled straight from a six-hour race in Austin, Texas to the Nürburgring, swapping the Le Mans prototype Porsche 919 Hybrid for the 515-kW (700-hp) 911 GT2 RS with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres in impressive style. It was Lars Kern, a Porsche test driver by trade with a passion for racing, who ultimately set the final record time. Alongside the Carrera Cup Australia, Kern regularly competes in the VLN Endurance Championship on the Nürburgring and knows the Nordschleife inside out. The subsequent record lap began at 7:11 pm and finished 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds later in ideal outdoor conditions. As is customary for record drives, the time was measured along the 20.6-kilometre stretch. The vehicle’s average speed was 184.11 km/h.
The fastest, most powerful road-legal 911 celebrated its world premiere at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood in the UK at the end of June. At the heart of this high-performance sports car is a 700 hp (515 kW), flat-six biturbo engine, weighing in at 1,470 kg with a full fuel tank. The lightweight rear-wheel drive two-seater coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, achieving a top speed of 340 km/h with its motorsport-derived drive technology. The new 911 GT2 RS beats its 3.6-litre predecessor by 80 hp (59 kW) and achieves a torque of 750 Nm (an increase of 50 Nm).
As the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy announced a number of new incentives for Electric Vehicle owners in Dubai last week, Renault, in conjunction with its alliance partners, has released details of a six-year plan which will cement Renault’s reputation as EV trailblazers in the region.
The Renault, Nissan & Mitsubishi motors alliance has pledged to launch twelve new zero-emission electric vehicles by 2022. The two announcements are significant steps in supporting the ‘Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050’ which envisions Dubai having the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.
The new incentives announced by Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, allow new EV buyers to charge their vehicles for free at Dewa-approved stations until 2019, access free designated green parking in Dubai, qualify for free electric vehicle registration and renewal fees, as well as, exemption from Salik’s tag fee and a licence plate sticker identifying the vehicle as an electric car.
As the first automotive company to launch a 100% electric car in the UAE, and with further EV vehicles set to arrive in the region over the coming years, Renault is well placed to support the movement for a greener Middle East.
Commenting on the two important announcements, Marwan Haidamous, Renault Middle East Managing Director, said “As the pioneers in electric mobility in the Middle East and the market leader for electric vehicles in Europe, we intend to continue to lead the way in developing electric vehicle solutions in the region. With the new incentives announced by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the much-anticipated introduction of the ZOE Long Range, which features the longest range of any mainstream electric vehicle, together we can start the electric revolution in the Middle East.”
Renault is the only car manufacturer to offer a full range of electric vehicles, with the Twizy (quadricyle), ZOE (hatch) and Kangoo (Utility Van). First launched in the Middle East in 2014, the Renault Twizy was designed as an ‘ultramobile’, with its ultra-compact dimensions (2.34m long, 1.24m wide and 1.45m tall) and powered entirely by electricity. In addition, the flagship of Renault’s Z.E. (Zero Emissions) range, the ZOE Long Range, an all-electric, multi-award winning five-door supermini, is due to arrive in the Middle East in the coming months.

It all started with a man named Enzo Ferrari - who initially raced cars for Costruzioni Meccaniche Nazionali - a small-scale car manufacturer in Milan that built passenger cars out of used truck bodies. He was eventually promoted to being the race car driver and made his first debut as one in 1919.
In 1920, Enzo joined Alfa Romeo as a race car driver which proved successful and made Alfa Romeo offer than man a chance in bigger competitions, until later on in 1925 when Enzo had a shiver run down his spine after the death of Antonio Ascari. After the birth of his son Dino in 1932, Enzo decided to call it quits with the racing division and instead, head the management and production at the Alfa Romeo factory.
In 1929, he founded Scuderia Ferrari which was said to be a racing division for Alfa Romeo. Tazio Nuvolari was one among their most skilled drivers who raced in the Alfa Romeo P3. It was sometime during this phase when the Prancing Horse emblem had begun to rise on his cars. The famous logo we know it to be today had once been designed by late fighter pilot Francesco Baracca, who was shot down and killed during World War I. In memory of the pilot's passing, Enzo decided to use the famous emblem which was first seen on a Ferrari in 1947.
In this story, we're going to highlight some of the best road and race cars that beared Enzo's surname. Enjoy.
This was the first-ever car to have been handcrafted by the Italian automaker, in Modena, Italy. When it made its debut on May 11th, 1947 - it was the first road-racer to bear the 'Ferrari' name. It featured a 1.5-litre Colombo 125 V12 that made 118bhp. It consisted of a single-overhead-camshaft design with 2 valves per cylinder and three double-choke Weber carburettors. Married to the motor was a 5-speed transmission. There were just two of the cars built and both were eventually dismantled with their parts being used in production of the 159 and 166 models.[caption id="attachment_5547" align="alignnone" width="920"] 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, s/n 3851GT[/caption]
Ferrari 250 GTO
Quite possibly one of the most beautiful Ferraris in the world, the GTO has remained the poster-pinup for many a young boy. There were just 39 of these cars built from 1962 to 1964. It featured a 3.0-litre Tipo 168 Comp/62 V12, also used in the 250 Testa Rossa in Le Mans, and produced 300hp, linked a 5-speed dog-leg manual gearbox. It employed A-arm front suspension, rear live-axle, disc brakes and Borrani wire wheels. "Rosso Cina" was the most popular colour it sold in, with the bodies being honed by none other than Scaglietti. The seats were upholstered in cloth, and there was no way you could tell how fast you were going as there was no speedometer. The exposed metal-gate shifter set the tradition of Ferraris that were to follow. Ferrari Dino
The Dino was a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car aimed at an audience that was on the lookout for a not-so-expensive Ferrari, with the 'Dino' badge in place of the prancing horse. It featured a 2.4-litre V6 engine that produced 192hp. It was initially sold only as a coupe, and was then later offered as a targa-topped version as well. The body was of steel construction and sported a longer wheelbase than the 206. A total of 3569 owners were the lucky ones; Sir Elton John was one of them too! Ferrari Daytona
The Daytona, unlike its more curvaceous siblings, was an unconventional design that boasted of a sharp edges and a sleeker silhouette. Up-front, it featured fixed headlamps incorporated in acrylic glass covers until later in 1971, when retractable pop-up twin headlamps showed up. It was a front-engined, rear-wheel-drive GTB featuring a 4.4-litre Colombo V12, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It also had four-wheel independent suspension with coil springs and wishbones. Styled by Pininfarina, it was nothing short of gorgeous to behold.
The Testarossa was the successor to the Berlinetta Boxer and featured a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. Power came from a 4.9-litre, flat-12 engine from Ferrari and produced 390hp. 0-100kph was dealt with in just 5.3 seconds, while the top speed was a staggering 290kph. Ten thousand examples - the 512 TR and F512 M models were produced from 1992 to 1996. The extended slats along the doors which helped channel air into the engine have remained a signature Testarossa design element.
Ferrari's F40 was created to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary and was given the green signal by none other than Enzo Ferrari himself, making it the last model ever to be signed off by him. The F40 was Ferrari's biggest feat at the time - as it was the most extreme, most expensive and most powerful Ferrari ever made. Only 1311 cars were produced for some of the most well-heeled back in the '80s and '90s. It featured a 2.9-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 capable of 471hp with power being sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual. Nick Mason from Pink Floyd has one in his vast car collection too. Ferrari Enzo
Finally a supercar named after its founder - the Enzo was the ultimate 12-cylinder, mid-engined berlinetta supercar. It was created with the help of Formula 1 technology, using a carbon-fibre body, ceramic composite disc brakes, and F1-style electrohydraulic shift transmission. It also featured traction control and active aerodynamics. All of 651hp was sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox. For the first time, a road car featured LED lights on the steering wheel signalling the driver when to execute timely gear changes. The Enzo could accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.15 seconds. Oh, and Nick Mason had one of 400 ever made too.
Arguably the most beautiful modern Ferrari to be made, the 458 Italia has captured the hearts of many. It replaced the F430 and was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. Ferrari infused F1 knowledge into the 458 Italia, making it one of their most technologically advanced models made. Powered by a 4.5-litre V8 capable of 562hp and 540Nm of torque, it managed 0-100 in just 3.0 seconds, with a top speed of 340kph. In order to help improve the car's cornering and straightline acceleration, it was equipped with an E-Diff and F1-Trac traction control systems. Power was sent via a 7-speed dual-clutch auto transmission.
The Ferrari, or "LaFerrari" in Italian is the company's latest, most advanced hypercar that also incorporates hybrid technology. It endows a 6.3-litre V12 that produces 789bhp and an additional 161bhp from HY-KERS unit, taking it up to a total of 950bhp! Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is also equipped with carbon-ceramic Brembo discs all around. A host of electronic nannies govern the LaFerrari - like ESC, high-performance ABS, EBD, E-diff third-generation electronic differential, EF1-Trac F1 electronic traction control integrated with the hybrid system, and the works! A top speed of 349kph has been claimed with a 0-100kph time figure of 2.4 seconds. Only 500 examples of the coupe are being manufactured, with 210 examples spared for the Aperta (spider) version.
With 13 rounds the calendar marks return of Turkey after an absence of seven years. It stands in place of Poland in the fixture that was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris a few days ago. The championship begins with the regular season opener in Rallye Monte-Carlo in January.
It features a mix of gravel, asphalt, snow and ice action across four continents to find the world’s best all-round driver. Turkey returns to the WRC for the first time since 2010. The 10th round will be based in the popular international holiday resort of Marmaris on 13 - 16 September.
The gravel fixutre will feature fast to medium-speed special stages including a mix of smooth open roads near Marmaris and demanding rocky mountain passes in Mugla state. Turkish motorsport federation TOSFED will organise the rally. It will be one of the most compact in WRC history with several stages starting or finishing close to the service park.
WRC team manufacturers Toyota, Hyundai and Ford build vehicles in Turkey, Europe’s fifth largest automotive producer last year with almost 1.5 million vehicles produced. The season begins later than in 2017 as Monte-Carlo moves back a week to 25 - 28 January.
The second round in Sweden is also seven days later on 15 - 18 February. Following the seventh round in Italy on 7 - 10 June, there will be a six-week break before the second half of the season begins in Finland on 26 - 29 July. British rally switches from late October and will run three weeks earlier on 4 - 7 October.
Spain swaps with Great Britain to become the final European round. WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla said the new calendar offers enticing blend of tradition and history, in the form of classic and long-standing rounds such as Sweden, Argentina and Finland, with a welcome return to Turkey.
The former European Superstock 600 champion Maxime Berger has perished at the age of 28. The French rider was in a coma in the CHU hospital in Dijon since he reportedly tried to take his own life at the beginning of this month. He passed away on Friday unfortunately.
A statement from Berger's father Alain read: "Following the malice that drove Maxime Berger into a vegetative state for a month, it was with great sadness that I decided, with the agreement of the doctors of the CHU, to let Maxime go. He will soon be at peace. Thank you all for the support you have given. A press release will be issued shortly regarding his funeral."
Maxime Berger appearance in the World Superbike scenes with a debut in 2011 on a Supersonic Racing Team Ducati and finished 16th in the riders’ standings with a best finish of seventh. The following year he moved to the Effenbert Liberty squad but was dropped mid-season before scoring his best WSBK result, a fourth place on home soil at Magny-Cours.
He then again finished in16th place in the standings despite missing two rounds. Before joining WSBK, Berger was successful in Superstock 1000, as he finished second overall in 2008 and 2010 for the Ten Kate Honda team and scoring seven victories during that time.
His title-winning year came aboard the Team Trasimeno Yamaha in 2007 at the age of 18. Berger also raced in the FIM Endurance World Championship after WSBK.
Formula One cars are incredibly difficult when it comes to overtaking. The complex aerodynamic profile the cars have make it even more worse and that’s why we see drivers sometime giving up on catching the one up front due to lose in performance and other sophisticated bits.
Since Pirelli became official tyre supplier of F1, the duration and compound of rubber play a huge role in the outcome of a driver’s race – the tyres make or break a race in fact. After resounding criticism, the tyres were made durable but they still have a crucial part over a race weekend.
With this year’s aerodynamically evolved cars shattering all the fastest lap time records by unbelievable margins, the emphasis on how difficult it is to overtake takes better shape. Formula 1 drivers struggle to overtake because of the negative effect the turbulent aerodynamic wake of a car has on the one behind.
The extent in which the airflow is disturbed by the leading car both on the straights and in corners decides the overtaking possibilities. The wake of a Formula 1 car is quite complex and both cars are affected by proximity, in particular the one at the back.
Aston Martin and Red Bull have teamed up in a big way for next year. The technical partnership will also see a new Advanced Performance Centre being established at Red Bull Racing’s campus to enable a closer working relationship F1 and road car technologies of both companies.
It is believed to create new employment for 110 workers as well as housing Aston Martin’s design and engineering personnel responsible for future sports cars. Aston Martin president and CEO Andy Palmer said his company could look to get further involved in F1 as an engine manufacturer.
It is only possible if the situation comes right. It will open up an exciting prospect for the Milton Keyes based team as it may well become a factory team for the supercar manufacturer. Palmer expects restriction in certain areas, as he prohibits no restrictions in cost or unconditional dynamometer hours.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner hailed the strengthened partnership and added that having conceived and created the remarkably successful Aston Martin Valkyrie together in 2016 the partnership has taken the next stage.
The relationship between Aston Martin and Red Bull began in 2016 after the two companies combined to produce the ground-breaking Valkyrie which will make its first run in 2018 before deliveries to customers the following year. The branding of Aston Martin will be found all over the car and commercial aspects of Red Bull racing team.
