BMW India introduces BMW xDrive Experience in Goa. This unique BMW Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) driving experience has been specially curated for adventure enthusiasts and is held from 23-24 September 2017 at IT Park Ground, Donna Paula, Goa.
Goa is the seventh city to host the BMW xDrive Experience. The BMW xDrive Experience will be hosted in 12 cities across India, showcasing the dynamic prowess of the BMW Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs). After Goa, the BMW xDrive Experience will be held in Delhi, Raipur, Lucknow, Jaipur and Kolkata.
Mr. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “BMW driving experiences offer the purest form of ‘Sheer Driving Pleasure’. The BMW xDrive Experience offers automobile enthusiasts the most exciting off-road driving experience in BMW Sports Activity Vehicle (SAVs) under expert guidance of BMW driver trainers. This adrenaline gushing driving experience demonstrates the prowess of BMW xDrive - an intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The BMW xDrive Experience is the blend of the best automotive technology and driving pleasure, while pushing these vehicles to its performance limits."
The BMW xDrive Experience showcases the sophisticated technology of BMW Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) such as BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW X5 and BMW X6. Under the expert guidance of internationally certified BMW trainers, participants will get to experience the extraordinary control, manoeuvrability and the grit of signature BMW xDrive technology on specially designed off-road track.
Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV).
The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment was created by BMW. The introduction of the BMW X5 in 1999 opened up totally new dimensions for all-wheel drive vehicles. The BMW X5 is a Sports Activity Vehicle with off-road capabilities that could be driven like a sports car. The concept of the BMW X5 encompassed the development of all-terrain models with a clear orientation towards luxury. The BMW X5 captured the imagination of its customers with a level of dynamic performance unmatched among its off-road peers. With the BMW X3, BMW picked up the pioneering baton once more and introduced the SAV concept into the midsize segment. The BMW X3 was born with more compact dimensions than the BMW X5 and even more agile handling. With the BMW X6, BMW offered an entirely new type of car, a unique design concept and driving dynamics never seen before – the world’s first Sports Activity Coupé. It unites apparent opposites, such as size with agility and sportiness with elegance. The Sports Activity Vehicle segment was further redefined with launch of the BMW X1.The BMW X1 is the world’s first Compact Sports Activity Vehicle with a young and modern character. With its agility and versatility, the BMW X1 guaranteed a new driving experience in the premium compact SAV segment.
The BMW xDrive is an intelligent all-wheel drive system that monitors the driving situation constantly and distributes drive power smoothly between the axles. BMW xDrive splits drive variably to the front and rear axles to suit the driving situation and the surface. Under normal driving conditions xDrive works with a basic 40/60 torque split front and rear. If there is any sudden change in requirements on account of differences in the friction values between the road surface and the driven wheels or because of the driving situation, the torque split can be varied within a fraction of a second without the driver even becoming aware of the change.
In contrast to other manufacturers, who use all-wheel drive principally to make up for the shortfall in traction suffered by front-wheel-drive vehicles, BMW tunes its xDrive system to provide handling typical of rear-wheel drive. Even in normal situations on the road, all-wheel-drive BMW models send the lion’s share of drive to the rear wheels.
Intelligent and variable.
Starting from a distribution between front and rear axle of 40:60 as is prevalent in normal driving situations, the power distribution can be altered to continuously variable levels. According to the requirements of driving dynamics, the power transmission proportion may vary between 50:50 and 0:100 per cent. Thus, xDrive uniquely enhances directional stability and driving dynamics when taking bends at speed.
Action, not reaction: xDrive "thinks" for the driver and acts instantaneously.
With BMW xDrive reacting within fractions of a second, the system offers enormous advantages in terms of traction. When setting out on slippery or loose ground, for example, the time-lag between the loss of wheel grip on the surface and the re-distribution of drive forces to wheels with grip is only a few milliseconds. And it thinks ahead too. As one drives, the xDrive analyses data from the on-board electronics systems such as speed, steering angle, torque output and other key factors – and calculates whether the vehicle can follow the driver’s wish or if it threatens to oversteer or understeer, thereby preventing the vehicle from swerving.
Increased driving dynamics and optimum traction in all conditions.
On unsurfaced tracks, the BMW xDrive provides maximum traction as well as safe and fast acceleration. Individual wheel spin is suppressed with fast and variable alteration of the power distribution between front and rear axle. BMW xDrive always distributes drive power where it is required. With its outstanding versatility, it not only enhances traction in difficult road conditions but also improves driving dynamics on the road. In a car equipped with xDrive, the driver has the assurance that even under adverse road-surface conditions the torque split is always instantly optimised to provide the best possible traction and stability.

The only car where I preferred the rear seat than the cockpit in recent times!
On a beautiful Sunday morning, the sun rose as if all the sorrows of the world have been washed out. The fresh array of sunlight hit my face through the dual sunroofs while I was gazing at the beauty of Vaalparai hills, being chauffeured in the all-new stretched out E-Class. Or should I call it a mini S-Class?
The 5th generation Mercedes Benz E Class was launched earlier this year as the extended wheel base variant which was exclusively designed for India. The E-Class comes in three variants: E200, E220d and E350d. The E200 is the only petrol variant available in the E-Class which you can see in the pictures while the E220d and E350d are diesel variants of the E.
Both the E 200 and E 220d make use of the same five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels and there is only the badging to differentiate between both variants; the pricier E 350d comes with 10-spoke alloys of the same size.
The E250d comes with a 2 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine which churns out 194bhp of power and 400Nm of maximum torque. The E350d is the powerful version of the E which comes with a 3 litre V6 diesel engine and has 258hp of peak power and 620Nm of torque.
The E200 petrol is a very pleasant car to drive. Despite the long wheelbase of the car, it feels light and nimble, especially the steering feedback. It goes exactly where you want it to go! The 2 litre petrol engine churns out 184bhp at 5500 rpm and 300Nm of maximum torque right from 1200rpm to 4000rpm. Forget the engine figures. The 4 cylinder petrol engine has enough power to munch miles and keep your driver in all the comfort and beware that the effortless driving might make your driver fall asleep. And before you ask, no - this engine doesn’t lack power. Compared to the more powerful diesel variants, you’ll feel the engine lacks punch. But we felt the engine is just perfect. Listen to the engine note from outside and you might mistake it for a diesel. From the inside, it’s quiet and pleasant; you barely notice the engine note.
100kmph comes in 8.6 seconds and the E200 comes equipped with paddle shifters. Extended wheel base means you have to be cautious over bigger speed bumps and you don’t get the 25mm raise option as in the E350d. The top variant also has airbody control air suspension which makes things better than the coil springs. The Parking Pilot option which is standard across all variants allows you to park the car by itself and unfortunately, we had forgotten to try out the option.
After around 100kms behind the wheel, I preferred enjoying the rear seat comfort. It was splendid I should say. The E Class isn’t a car to be driven; it is a car in which you should be chauffeured. Mercedes Benz analysed and found that most of their E Class owners were chauffeur-driven and hence the latest V213 (V stands for Verlängert – Extended in German) came to India.
Before going to the rear, the front portion is beautifully sculpted with the 12.3 inch screen integrated in the dashboard which has a dark wooden trim further enhancing the luxury factor. The steering has touch pads for the first time and simply sliding on them will help you change menus and music. All the driver controls (Drive modes, Parking options and auto start/stop) are to the left which is a pain to reach out initially.
V for extended and hence Mercedes added an extra 140 mm of length to the wheelbase, making it 3,079 mm (compared to the normal W213's 2,939 mm). The overall length is now 5.3 meters. Compared to the outgoing W212, the wheelbase is 205 mm longer. Rear seat legroom has been generously enhanced by 134 mm and is now at 320 mm.
The reclining rear seats combined with ride comfort are the best bits of the stretched out E Class! Extended wheel base literally allows you to walk into the car when the doors open up. Once you are seated, you immediately notice the soft pillows of the rear headrests. Being a 6 feet tall boy, I never preferred rear seats in my life, but this one is sublime! The rear passenger also has controls for the rear and side window sunshades as well as the panoramic roof shades. Being chauffeured in the E200, you can stretch your legs, sip a coffee and listen to your most favourite track in a blissful way! And when it comes to business tycoons, the rear is an immediate office.
Well, to add more oomph to the party we have the advanced 64-Colour ambient lighting with unique zones

Force India driver Sergio Perez has donated three million pesos which is equivalent to £ 1,24,500, to the victims of the earthquake in his home country of Mexico that killed hundreds of people. Last Tuesday's earthquake toppled many buildings in Mexico City. It has caused major damage in neighbouring states as well volcanic bursts and tremors are feared as well.
The Formula One Mexican Grand Prix is set to take place in the capital from 27-29 October despite the issues caused by the earthquake as the organizers vows to conduct the weekend as scheduled. According to the veteran Mexican driver, Sergio Perez, it is the time to be united and that he is deeply concerned for his homeland.
The 27-year-old said this on his social media while stating that Mexican billionaire, Carlos Slim, will also contribute to the disaster relief fund. All throughout his career, Slim backed him financially on way to driving previously in Sauber and McLaren. It is worth noting that Perez recently signed an year of extension to stay with Force India team for the 2018 season.
Aprilia racing manager Romano Albesiano says that his MotoGP outfit being ahead of new rivalling manufacturer KTM this season is an anomaly almost. In the third season of comeback, Aprilia has endured mixed fortunes. It equalled its best premier class result in Qatar but lost to other strong finishes due to continuous reliability problems with its engine in most case.
The issues have restricted the Italian marque to fifth in the manufacturers' standings only five points ahead of the latest entrant KTM with five rounds remaining. Lead Aprilia rider Aleix Espargaro urged his team to give everything to bolster its position next year or consider quitting MotoGP. But Albesiano said he was relaxed about the Austrian manufacturer's progress.
KTM's RC16 first hit the track at the end of 2015 before making eventual race debut last year - many months before the redesigned Aprilia RS-GP made its debut. He feels positive with the fact that they are getting closer to Honda, Yamaha and Ducati.
He also highlighted several weak points but added that the team must aim to improve more or less everywhere for 2018. He points out improvement in the power delivery at low speeds and phase in the middle of the corner when the rider is not using any throttle or brake. The time the bike needs more turning ability.
Hamilton took win in a dramatic Singapore Grand Prix as title rival Sebastian Vettel crashed out at the start. Hamilton crossed the finish line 4.5 seconds ahead of Daniel Ricciardo with Valtteri Bottas completing the final podium. The Briton extended his championship lead to 28 points over Vettel with Bottas further back in third.
It was pelting ahead of the start with Vettel, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Hamilton and Bottas startied on the intermediates. Kimi Raikkonen made a strong start from fourth to go three abreast with polesitter Vettel and Verstappen onto T1. Vettel moved across to cover the inside line, squeezing Verstappen who contacted Raikkonen, spearing him across the track into Vettel.
Raikkonen's car then collected Verstappen and Alonso at T1, putting Raikkonen and Verstappen out of the race. Vettel continued with his damaged car but then lost control out of Turn 3 and retired. Hamilton inherited the lead but the race was neutralised when the safety car was sent out. At the restart, Hamilton sprinted away at the front pulling out a lead of 3.5 s over Ricciardo.
After an interesting race, Carlos Sainz Jr finished a career-best fourth for Toro Rosso ahead of Force India's Sergio Perez with Jolyon Palmer scoring his first points of the season in sixth. Stoffel Vandoorne was seventh with Lance Stroll eighth as Romain Grosjean and Esteban Ocon completed the top 10.
