The Finn, Valtteri Bottas, got back the lead from pole at the start after briefly losing it whilst pitting first. He resisted pressure from Hamilton to claim his third victory of the year.

The 2017 F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton crossed the line 3.8 seconds behind while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel took home third position. Bottas opened up the lead when he got through Turn 1 clean. He pitted pit as Hamilton stayed out for three further laps, clocking the fastest time but rejoined behind Bottas in the end of his pit stop.

Hamilton kept up the pressure however and even got within 0.5s of Bottas but the latter responded by putting the hammer down. Vettel had a serene race in third place ahead of team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was on his way to fourth but pulled off track and retired with a hydraulic problem. His team-mate Max Verstappen finished fifth with Nico Hulkenberg sixth to secure sixth place in the constructors’ championship for Renault.
