The much needed victory for the Italian leaves him 21 points behind title leader Marc Marquez who finished fourth at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia with the titles going to the very edge at the final race in Valencia, Spain. The Ducati rider said, when asked about the title chances: everything can happen during the weekend, as weather will play a major role.

Despite the 21 points deficit and Marquez having a really fast Honda to his side, he and his team are going into the next race relaxed. Even if Dovizioso wins in Valencia, Marquez would only have to finish eleventh to get the five points he all needed to claim a fourth MotoGP crown.

The Spaniard began from seventh on the grid in Malaysia but had a brilliant start to take the lead out of nowhere. However, he quickly fell behind Jorge Lorenzo and the Johann Zarco’s Yamaha before Dovizioso overtook him on the fourth lap.

Dovizioso moved in front of fellow Ducati rider Lorenzo with four laps left to claim his sixth win of the season which is exactly the same number as Marquez but the latter had been more consistent. The highly impressive rookie Johann Zarco came home third.
